Netter's Anatomy Practice Test

Eversion is the movement that describes turning the sole of the foot outward, away from the midline. It involves the plantar surface facing more laterally as the calcaneus moves laterally at the subtalar and transverse tarsal joints. Inversion is the opposite, turning the sole inward toward the midline. Protraction and retraction refer to forward and backward gliding movements of other body parts (like the jaw or scapula) and aren’t used to describe foot movement.
